My name is Coral Clark, and I am a member of the class of 2025 at Elon University. At Elon, I’m majoring in Public Health (Biological Aspects) and Strategic Communications and minoring in Statistics and Health Communications. I am currently engaging in a Lumen research project entitled “Silenced and Sidelined: Examining the Intersectional Impact of Ableism and Racism on Maternal Health.” This research will study the influence of racism and ableism, contribute increased knowledge on maternal outcomes for marginalized communities, and contextualize findings within a reproductive justice framework.

ALEXA FERRAIUOLO
My name is Alexa Ferraiuolo (Class of 2025), and I am a Public Health and Strategic Communications double-major with a minor in Statistics. In my research, I hope to address the racial inequities in breast cancer treatment and how social determinants of health create poor breast cancer outcomes in marginalized communities. I aspire to pursue biomedical informatics as a career to improve healthcare delivery and population health outcomes particularly in underprivileged communities.

DIANA JIMENEZ-CARRENO
My name is Diana Jimenez-Carreno, and I am a member of the Class of 2026 at Elon University. I am majoring in Public Health Studies with minors in Biology and Health Communications. While I am not actively conducting research at the moment, I am enthusiastic about supporting others with their projects and initiatives. I am passionate about advancing health equity and am eager to share my perspective as a Latina pursuing a career in healthcare. My goal is to advocate for individuals facing health disparities and to take meaningful action to address these issues.

MADELINE MITCHENER
Hi my name is Madeline and I am a Junior double-majoring in Public Health and Public Policy. My research explores the experiences of Elon University students from non-nuclear family structures in how they navigate college, along with how the systemic lack of understanding and accommodation of these family dynamics affects their experiences and well-being. I hope to attend graduate school and obtain a Masters in Public Health and Social Work. I hope to work with communities and uplift the strengths within said communities. I also hope to work in collaborative spaces aimed at dismantling oppressive systems that create injustices.

FANCY MITCHELL
My name is Fancy Mitchell, and I am a member of the class of 2025 at Elon University. At Elon, I am pursuing a degree in Public Health Studies with minors in Psychology and Statistics. I am currently leading research on a critical yet often overlooked area of healthcare: Black maternal mental health. My project, Unspoken Struggles: Providers' Insights & Experiences in Black Maternal Mental Health, examines this crucial issue through the unique perspectives of healthcare providers and psychologists, aiming to shed light on systemic challenges and identify pathways for meaningful change. My favorite quote, "Self-care is not selfish. You cannot serve from an empty vessel" by Eleanor Brown, reflects my belief in the importance of maintaining personal well-being while serving others – a principle that deeply resonates with my research focus on maternal mental health and my broader commitment to public health advancement.
CATHERINE OLIVER
My name is Catherine Oliver and I am a member of the Elon University class of 2025. I am double majoring in Biochemistry and Public Health Studies. I serve as the student research assistant for the H.E.R. lab, helping to manage the lab’s operations, communications, and social media. I have also completed a semester of research with Dr. Baker, analyzing how the documentary-dance film Reclaiming Power: The Black Maternal Health Crisis had an impact on viewers’ understanding of the Black maternal health crisis and perceptions of out-of-hospital births.

ZOEY REIS
My name is Zoey Reis, and I am a member of the Class of 2026 at Elon University. At Elon, I am majoring in Public Health with accompanying minors in Policy Studies and Business Administration. I am currently not conducting my own undergraduate research, but I plan on assisting others in any way that I can with their own projects. I am eager to learn more about the expansive health disparities that exist particularly in minority communities, and I hope to gain more experience with the research surrounding this topic.
